From December 12th to January 9th the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will host the exhibition ‘Art of Craft’. Organized by Bulgari, one the Pavilion’s official sponsors, the event aims at displaying the Made in Italy’s fashion and jewellery excellence.
Art of Craft
The claim ‘Beauty connects People’ is once more interpreted by one of the greatest fashion brands. Visitors can experience the dialogue between approximately sixty of the Roman brand’s jewellery creations and more than 20 outfits, telling a story that spans from the 1950s to the 2000s.
“The legacy of our craftsmen, their creativity and skills are elements that have been part of our identity, from the very beginning”, – says Bulgari Brand Curator, Lucia Boscaini. “The evolution of style in the world of fashion truly goes hand in hand with the evolution of jewellery. From the creations of the 1950s to present-day items, we witness how tastes, sizes, shapes and materials have changed. An evolution that has always been driven by research and underpinned by great crafting skills. Hence the title Art of Craft”.
Bulgari Contemporary Art Award
Earlier this year, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Official Cultural Supporter of Expo 2020 Dubai, announced its partnership with Bulgari, resulting in the first edition of the ‘Bulgari Contemporary Art Award’.
The launch of the award this year is particular as 2021 marks two important events: the celebrations of the UAE’s fiftieth anniversary and the first universal fair to be held in the Arab world.
The annual initiative supports Dubai’s cultural development, offering local talents the opportunity to interpret how beauty connects people and receive an expert opinion by specialists in the field, which contributes to their access to professionalism and internationalism. The enhancement of the cultural sector will contribute to the country’s economic development as a whole and will highlight the city’s position as a cultural hub and innovation center.
How it works
The Bulgari Contemporary Art Award has three categories: visual arts, including drawing and painting, photography, and sculpture. The candidates will be chosen within Dubai Culture’s artists database and must be UAE nationals or residents, their works need to be specially created for the award and must employ colour.
Dubai Culture will select three to five nominees for each award category. These artists will be invited to attend online lectures and workshops that will introduce them to Bulgari.
The winning work will be announced early February 2022 and will be exhibited at the Italy Pavilion at Expo 2020. The winning artist will be offered the opportunity to a week-long trip to Rome to visit Bulgari’s design centers and other sites. In addition, the winning artwork will be exhibited at venues associated with Dubai Culture and Bulgari.
